us5e2cv61The companies in Texas assembled at Fort Belknap in August, 1855, preparatory for the transfer to Fort Riley, Kansas. Companies A and G came from Fort McKavett, Texas, B and I being already at Fort Belknap, Texas, and C and F from Fort Chadbourne, Texas. Leaving Fort Belknap August 26, these units arrived at Fort Riley, September 28, after a march of 495 miles. Regimental headquarters and band under Lieutenant Colonel Cooke arrived at Fort Riley for station October 16, 1855, after taking part in the Sioux Expedition.
