My Great-Grandfather served as a Farrier in the 2nd Cavalry, "E" Troop from 1883 - 1888. His name was Gilbert Borio. I can find very little on the history of "E" Troop other then they served at Ft Walla Walla and possibly went on a expedition to Alaska. Can anyone provide more information on "E" Troop during this period or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance for help provided.

Dave my Grandfather was in 2nd tank batallion ww2 and was captured in the battle of the bulge. If I read the 9th armored history there were only 12 captured if that is true then Sam Boese, my Grandfather Raymond Tuschhoff, his buddy Edgar Jarvis would have been part of the 12. He passed when I was 5 and never told my Father or Grandmother any thing. I am looking for any information or contacts to try to get his involvement and try to answer many questions. When he was captured he was sent to Stalag 4b. I have Been looking for morning reports,AA reports,or rosters to pinpoint when he was captured and what happened. Thank you and the Greatest Generation for there selfless sacrifices as the more I learn the prouder I become of my Grandfather. These were truly brave Heroes.

Evan and other interested parties,

I have been metal detecting in Kansas. I found what I believe is a .52 caliber lead shot from a Hall's rifle. Were the Dragoons ever in southwest Kansas?

I was stationed at Ft. Polk from '93 - '00. JRTC was in the infant stages. I remember the huge dedication to the 5th ID. They were Ft. Polk; they were stationed there for decades and when they deactivated, a huge dedication ceremony was held.

Ft. Polk was not my favorite duty assignment. Someone once told me that Ft. Polk was the "armpit of the Army." I didn't think it was that bad but I did have better assignments. Even though I wasn't fond of the post, I absolutely loved the 2 ACR. I loved the cavalry and at one point even considered changing my MOS to 19D. To this day, I swell up with pride any time I see that red/white guidon.

Toujours Pret!!

"One of the strongest reflections of the entire ceremony was the heartrending sound of the General’s March played as a dirge. There were not many dry eyes among the soldiers present for the ceremony."

Before my father, LaVerne Boyer, died in 2006, he told us a story about how the dance band he played in at the end of the war (for victory balls) had to play for General Patton's funeral. My father claimed there were no regular marching bands near Luxembourg at the time. Dad had to arrange the music to sound more military for the instruments they had on hand. Does anyone know if this is true or not? My father was quite old when he told us this story.

I'd love to know if it was true or not.
