John Wynn "Black Jack" Davidson, 6th Colonel of the Regiment, from March 20, 1881, until his untimely death barely three months later when his horse slipped on ice during an inspection tour and fell on him. Nicknamed Black Jack for his command of a squadron of the all black 10th Cavalry, he died on June 26th, 1881. Black Jack Pershing would receive his nickname some 30 years after Davidson for service with the same regiment. Viewed: 722 times.
