1st Plt B Troop, 42d Squadron pulls reconnaissance on the approaches to Igney, France. What began as food and drink from a joyous townspeople quickly turned to six enemy vehicles destroyed and 35 soldiers of the 11th Panzer Division killed or injured by elements of the 1st Platoon. The 2nd Cavalry Group takes a thrust by the Fifth Panzer Army square in the nose, halting the Fifth Panzer's push at Luneville, while XV Corps pounds the German's southern flank and the 4th Armored Division north of Luneville destroyes 281 tanks. (click map to enlarge)

Operation "Hambone" Woods, led by C Troop, 2nd Squadron, was a well planned Squadron assault on the Jambon woods, setting up an attack on Frontiere, a carefully selected wooded vantage point protected from direct fire from the enemy strongholds at Moncourt and north of Xures. Although Frontiere would provide a protected pocket for the Squadron, the approach was well mapped by the enemy artillery. (click map to enlarge)

The 26th Recon Troop of the 26th Infantry Division has been attached to the Group to gain some combat savvy from the now veteran 2d Cavalry troopers.
